Analytics privacy
Pinecast allows you to configure an analytics provider to send analytics data to. We support many providers, including Dynamo, Podcorn, and more. These providers work by adding a “prefix” to the URLs of your episode audio. When a listener requests the audio, they access the provider before accessing Pinecast. This allows the provider to track the listen.
This behavior, though, gives the analytics provider access to more than just details about the listener. If someone is a subscriber through your Tip Jar, the analytics provider also gets access to information about the private feed that your listener accesses Pinecast through. That feed includes information about episodes that are not public.
While we recommend only using services that you trust, you can now disable forwarding analytics data to providers from paid Tip Jar feeds. This ensures that the provider doesn’t get access to content that is otherwise non-public. Keep in mind that protecting your show in this way effectively disables the analytics provider for listeners who have a paid subscription.
